In Bruce nauman’s work ive noticed some of them have the same paranoia and “something is missing” sensation it gives out to the viewers. The theme that most spoke out to me is the “seeing and being seen” as described by the participatory structures 1970 While walking in circles or should i say in “squares” since it consists of four walls and televisions that let you see others behind you or see yourself if you do it correctly.  Nauman’s method of artwork can be seen as straightforward but thats what makes it boggling, as seen in: Clown with video surveillance,1986 There are no doors in these toilet stalls so whats the point in the surveillance camera? Everything about this picture describes nauman’s theme it causes discomfort. The composition and canvas can be seen as uneven which adds into the whole distorted vibe. Notice the cut out next to the clown? Yes that really sets off this piece it is a real woman next to a cartoon drawn clown, we will

Vincent van gogh,1889,Cypresses First of all the mood on cypresses is incredibly joyful despite van gogh was in a asylum while painting this. Everything is made up of swirls its like trying to hypnotize the viewer into heaven. Despite the vibrant colors lets not forget the giant dark tree leaning on the left it radiates with resilience and power. One thing ive noticed is the clouds are blowing against the tall tree, shows that a storm is approaching. Cypresses really does represents post-impressionism in every way to the unearthly sky and unnatural greens it all oozes with emotions.   Medea about to kill her children,Eugene Delacroix 1838 This artwork shows women can have destructive power, the murder of own children with a knife. Romantics love moods that are horrific and idealized the past and this medea shows everything to intense emotion whilst the children struggling. The background surrounding medea and her children is a big contrast to the

Artists unify their work in order to compose a in sync piece and for them to do that they must use repetitive colors and geometric shapes. The composition of one’s piece also is important to unify the whole painting like balancing the left and right of the canvas. Georges seurat - a sunday on la grande jatte , 1884 This painting defines unification by using the same umbrella shape and using the color red on clothing repeatedly. As you can see most of the people there are faced/looking at the same direction which brings the whole painting together.   Asymmetrical is the the opposite of balance, it is artists deliberately making the left and the right sides of the canvas not the same on “visual weights and color forms”. Jacques-louis David, Oath of the Horatii The reason why i chose this painting by david to represent asymmetrical  art is because the left of this piece has only three people while the right has more than three, already creating this off balance

impressionism vs post impressionism

What the the online session is trying to convey about impressionism is in 1874 the french were opposing the academic doctrines and romantics ideals and literally took their canvases outside and paint “what the eye sees, not what it knows”. During that time impressionists relied on the present and highlighted lighting the most and by doing that they mixed little color as possible. As shown on Two sisters (on the terrace) by Pierre-Auguste renoir In the painting you can easily notice the amount of detail the background(nature) has and little strokes put into this. The  warm colors on the background and cool colors the sisters are wearing are not mixed with each other thus presenting the impressionism. The second part of the online session video was post impressionism and it is completely the opposite of impressionism. It is a style that lets one personalize an object however they want, warp it into emotions. The way they do it using bold/saturated flat colors and usin
